My Profile Jonathan Legris Jonathan Started karting at the age of 8 at Matchams near Bournemouth, racing against the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Paul Di Resta in the junior categories. Winning many races in cadets and Jica, Jonathan then made the step into European Karting, setting himself apart from the other British drivers to be top Brit in what would prove to be a very tough season while racing against people like Sebastien Vettel and Nico Hulkenburg. At the age of 15 though, Jonathan was diagnosed with stage 4 Lymphoma, a dangerous form of cancer which saw the youngster battle it while still keeping his racing dreams alight. 1 year of tough chemotherapy and radiotherapy proved the strength of the character inside and he bounced back to win a Formula BMW Scholarship in only his 3rd time in a racing car. The joy though was short lived, as once again, Jonathan was struck by the same cancer and was unable to compete in motorsport for the following year. Going into the treatment extremely fit, Jonathan came out with extremely limited energy and struggled to get himself fit enough to be racing. Help from family and friends though soon saw him on track, in the gym and fitter than ever, and now comfortably strong and fit enough for the next step. Jonathan also managed to fit in his studies, passing all the GCSE'S , even though away from school for most of the 2 years while recieving the life saving treatment. He even follwed this up with one year on a Motorsport derived Degree at Loughborough University.
BMW Motorsport thankfully held the Scholarship over, Jonathan taking it in 2005 to an impressive 5 rookie wins even though no pre-season testing due to still overcoming the illness. It was 2006 though, where Jonathan missed all of the pre-season testing, once again falling foul of illness. The season for Jonathan started late, but on his comeback he scored a maiden pole and 2 podiums which he followed up with several more through the year. It has been 2008 though which has seen Jonathans true pace in a racing car. While behind the wheel of an 8 year old Team West-tec run Dallara, Jonathan has taken his outstanding pace to the eyes of Gp2 and F1, with 3 outright second places, even a front row at the Valencia Street Circuit and a lap record at Spa. This has lead to several other doors opening, including 3 outings in the British F3 Championship in the fledging new R1 car and new team Litespeed. Jonathan has Also made his Sportscar debut, winning in a VdeV at Assen with IF Motorsport. Click here to view my career history. |
