Jonathan made a one day visit to Jerez really count as he joined some of the other Spanish F3 Championship runners making a 2nd day at the Southern Spanish circuit. With 23 degree air temperature, the track was at its fastest very early in the morning leaving Jonathan a massive task of setting the new car up to his liking and posting the times that he needed. Playing catch up to the other drivers and teams who set the cars up the day previous, Jonathan ended his morning running on old tyres and only 0.6 secs behind the leader. With a good base set-up, the new tyre run was halted several times due to red flags and the tyres would eventually be ruined, reverting Jonathan to spend his afternoon on older tyres. With the car now set, Jonathan showed staggering pace, lapping the same times as in the morning, some 0.5 - 1.0 second a lap faster than his rivals. Faster still than those who were putting on new tyres! Jonathan commented "This has been a brilliant day. We had our new tyre run botched which threw out the cars balance so we ran on old tyres today but the team (Emilio De Vilotta) and i worked really well, moving forward the whole day. We even had time to back to back our set-ups to double check!" The next collective test will be in 3 weeks at Barcelona. |
